1 killed, 1 wounded in downtown Los Angeles shooting

The Los Angeles Police Department was investigating after a double shooting left one man dead and another man wounded in downtown Los Angeles Thursday night.

A couple said they were walking home from a Black Lives Matter protest around 10:10 p.m. when they stopped to help a man who was lying on the ground in the 200 block of Soto Street. That’s when the couple says a gray van pulled up next to the three of them and someone inside the van opened fire.

The gunman reportedly shot the man who already down in the head and the man who stopped to help him was shot in his lower body.

Paramedics were seen performing CPR for the man who was shot in the head, but said there was nothing they could do. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim's name has not been released. He was identified by authorities as a Hispanic man in his 20s.

Witnesses who live at a homeless encampment nearby told FOX 11 the victim who was killed had lived there for a few months.

The other victim who tried to help was taken to a local hospital is expected to make a full recovery. A description of the suspect was not immediately available.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the LAPD.
