Author Jaime Lowe talks about an inmate firefighting program where women risk their lives for less than five bucks a day, plus a dollar an hour when they are actually on the fire line. The book is called Breathing Fire: Female Inmate Firefighters on the Front Lines of California’s Wildfires.

COVID has had a huge impact on working moms. The labor department says from January of 2020 to January of this year, the number of working moms with kids under 18 dropped by 1.6 million. Because of several challenges brought on by the pandemic, some are facing impossible choices. Melissa Panzer is from the nonprofit media company Working Nation. The group raises awareness about the challenges in the workforce. She joined Good Day LA to talk about some of the concerns she is hearing.
