The United States and Iran will talk with other world powers about returning to the Obama-era agreement that limited Iran’s nuclear program in exchange for the removal of crippling economic sanctions.

Authorities say an Iranian scientist named by the West as the leader of the Islamic Republic’s disbanded military nuclear program has been killed in an ambush on the outskirts of Tehran.

Eleven U.S. service members were flown out of Al Assad Air Base in Iraq and treated for concussion symptoms after Iran's rocket attack targeting two Iraqi military bases earlier this month, a spokesman for U.S. Central Command revealed Thursday night.

Anti-government protests erupted across Iran late Saturday, where thousands of demonstrators called for a regime change with chants of “death to the dictator,” following the state’s reluctant admission that it shot down a Ukrainian passenger plane.

Iranian state TV, citing a military statement, says the country `unintentionally' shot down a Ukrainian jetliner, killing all 176 aboard.

The new sanctions will target Iranian companies and eight senior officials.

Western leaders said the plane appeared to have been unintentionally hit by a missile just hours after Iran launched around a dozen ballistic missiles at two U.S. bases in Iraq.

Two U.S. officials suggested it could well have been a mistake.

The House vote was scheduled shortly after a briefing on Iran Wednesday by top administration officials that many Democrats criticized as lacking specific justification for the killing.
