Woman, dog killed in crash on 405 Freeway near VA Hospital

A woman and a dog were killed in a crash on the 405 Freeway on Friday night, and three other people were hospitalized. 

What we know:

The crash was reported around 7:15 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the 405 Freeway near Wilshire Boulevard.

Two cars were involved in the crash — an SUV and a four-door sedan. Images from SkyFOX showed the cars heavily damaged against a concrete barrier.

The Los Angeles Fire Department reported that at least one person was trapped in one of the cars. A 72-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people were hospitalized. An 80-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man were in critical condition. A 60-year-old woman was in fair condition.

In addition to the people injured in the crash, one dog was also killed, the LAFD reported. A second dog was reported missing on the northbound 405 Freeway.

What we don't know:

None of the victims in the crash have been identified.

The cause of the crash also remains unclear.

Other Impacts:

Three lanes of the 405 Freeway were closed while officials investigated the crash. Images from SkyFOX showed massive backup on the 405 for miles.
