Trump leads Republicans by double digits in California, according to new poll

(FOX 11) - According to a new poll, Donald Trump would lead his Republican rivals by double digits in California.

The Public Policy Institute of California has Donald Trump at 38 percent among likely Republican voters in California, Ted Cruz at 27 percent and John Kasich at 14 percent.

People in Orange County have mixed feelings about the poll.

"Trump is telling the truth on a lot of things," said voter Richard Duer. "What's going on in this world with all the terrorists and everything."

"It does disappoint me. But we have to get out there and vote if we want something different," added Guadalup Hermosillo, another Orange County voter.

Nestor Moto Jr., the vice president of Log Cabin Republicans of Orange County, is young, gay and Hispanic. He warns not to underestimate Trump's appeal in California just because there are so many immigrants here.

"Everyone is more than one identity. We all are a spectrum of identities... He's speaking to some of the issues they support and they stand on the same side," said Moto.

Moto suspects Trump's popularity will only grow bigger as more of the party gels around him.

"He's speaking to a vain in the American people," said Moto.

Even if Trump wins California, it's the general election some voters worry about.

"It would be pretty crazy if he actually became president but actually I would probably vote for him over Hillary. Both are pretty scary to me," said voter Jennifer Lopez.

Ten percent of people surveyed in the poll said they would vote for someone else other than Trump, Cruz or Kasich.

Nine percent said they didn't know who they'd vote for.
