Rash of mountain lion sightings in Simi Valley continue overnight

A rash of mountain lion sightings in Simi Valley have had residents in the area on edge.

The latest sighting was reported around 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the 4900 block of Ringwood Street. The mountain lion was captured on the resident's Ring camera.

Simi Valley Police said that about 30 minutes later, another mountain lion sighting was reported near the In-N-Out restaurant on Stearns Street.

Officers were unable to locate the mountain lion but because the sightings were so close together, they believe it was the same cat.

Simi Valley has been the site of several mountain lion attacks in recent weeks, including one that killed three goats and another that resulted in the death of a miniature Schnauzer in early December.

Contrary to what residents might think, officials say this many mountain lion sightings is not unusual. Adding that the animals have always been in the area, roaming the streets, but before home security cameras, people weren't as aware of their presence.

Officials are reminding residents in the area to remain alert and to keep pets indoors at night.
