Private driver shot in overturned car, wounded in robbery attempt
HOLLYWOOD HILLS, Calif. (FOX 11 / CNS) - A driver for a private transportation company was wounded by a gunman this morning in the Hollywood Hills, police said.
His condition was not immediately known, said Officer Liliana Preciado of the LAPD's Media Relations Section.
Police officers were dispatched at 2:30 a.m. to the 3200 block of Velma Drive, where the driver had dropped off a woman, Preciado said.
While at the location, a gunman approached the woman and tried to rob her, but when he realized she had no money, he made the woman call back the driver, she said. When the driver came back, he realized the gunman was trying to rob him and tried to back his vehicle away, and, as he did so, it overturned, she said.
The gunman shot the driver while he was still inside his overturned vehicle, Preciado said, and the gunman fled.
Paramedics rushed the driver to an area hospital, where his condition was not immediately known.
The woman was not wounded or injured during the attempted robbery, Preciado said.
