Man shot, killed at Pico Rivera gas station
New details have emerged after a man was shot and killed at a gas station in Pico Rivera.
PICO RIVERA, Calif. - Homicide detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were investigating after shots were fired at a gas station in Pico Rivera on Thursday night.
What we know:
LASD deputies responded to the Shell gas station located at the intersection of Washington and Passons boulevards just before 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21.
Witnesses said a man in a black pickup truck exchanged words with a pedestrian who had been walking around the intersection. The driver then pulled into the gas station, got out and more words were reportedly exchanged between the two. A short time later, the pedestrian pulled out a gun and shot the victim.
Witnesses told FOX 11 they heard at least five shots fired.
The victim was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Meanwhile, the suspect ran away from the scene.
‘He was an amazing young man’
What they're saying:
Friends and co-workers who knew the victim described him as a "wonderful man," adding that they're shocked and saddened by what happened.
"He was an amazing young man," a loved one told FOX 11. "That's why I don't understand how this right here has happened. It's very hurtful…but for this to happen to him is very, very shocking."
Loved ones at the scene said the victim worked at a nearby mental care facility.
What we don't know:
A description of the suspect was not available and the victim's name has not been released by authorities.
