Oxnard couple arrested, accused of strangling their newborn to death

A mother and her boyfriend have been arrested for allegedly strangling their newborn baby to death.

Oxnard Police responded to St. John's Medical Center on July 19, just before 8 a.m. regarding a suspicious injury report.

Once at the hospital officers they located a newborn baby with critical injuries.

Police say the newborn baby's mother Andrea Torralba, and her boyfriend, David Villa, strangled the newborn until he was unconscious.

Medical staff tried to revive him but unfortunately the newborn baby died from his injuries.

Torralba and Villa were both arrested for assault on a child by means of force resulting in the child's death. Their bail has been set to $1,000,000.
