Moreno Valley man having mental health crisis shot and killed by deputies, family says
Family said police had been called to the home before and knew that the man, identified by loved ones as 36-year-old Jesus Rodriguez, had mental health issues.
MORENO VALLEY, Calif. - Authorities are investigating after a man was shot and killed by Riverside County Sheriff's deputies in Moreno Valley Monday, family members said.
Officials with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department said the shooting occurred shortly before 1:30 p.m. in the 25400 block of Filaree Avenue off Kitching Street.
Family members told reporters at the scene that 33-year-old Jesus Antonio Rodriguez was shot and killed while having a mental health crisis. According to his sister, Jesus Rodriguez was shouting and hitting the walls.
"He was supposed to go to the mental clinic because he's schizophrenic," said Isabelle Rodriguez. "He's been acting up, he's been having episodes."

Man shot and killed by deputies in Moreno Valley
Authorities are investigating after a Riverside County sheriff's deputy shot and killed a man who, according to his family, was having a mental health criris.
Isabelle Rodriguez said that cops had been called to the home multiple times before, and knew that her brother was schizophrenic.
Isabelle Rodriguez said her mother told deputies that Jesus Rodriguez had a BB gun, and that when deputies went to his room, they shot him.
Deputies had a different story. In an official statement the department said that Jesus Rodriguez's mother called 911 saying her son was "under the influence of an unknown substance and being aggressive towards her." Deputies said when they entered the house, Jesus Rodriguez ran to his room and yelled at deputies from the door. Deputies said they tried to deescalate the situation before Jesus Rodriguez came back with a baseball bat with metal spikes. That's when deputies used a Taser on him. Deputies said the Taser didn't work and that's when Jesus Rodriguez was shot.
The deputies involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave. The department is still investigating.
