92-year-old man viciously beaten with brick; suspects sought

An elderly grandfather walking in his Willowbrook neighborhood was viciously attacked by a woman with a brick leaving him with severe injuries. A witness intervened and snapped a photo of the woman who was making racial comments during the attack.

Photos show a bloodied 92-year-old grandfather just moments after his family says he was attacked by a woman armed with a brick used to hit him in the face and several other men who later jumped in.

His family tells FOX 11 that he was visiting LA from Mexico on the 4th of July. He was the victim of an unprovoked attack where he was beaten in the face by a woman with a brick and several other assailants who jumped in all while telling him to go back to Mexico.

The grandfather's name is Rodolfo Rodriguez, and the attack left him in bad shape -- two broken ribs, a broken cheekbone, and lots of bruising. Grandson Erik Mendoza says Rodriguez was walking down this sidewalk near 118th and Central on the 4th of July when he accidentally bumped into the woman's child while trying to pass.

Mendoza translated for us as Rodriguez explained what happened next: "And when he turned his back they just tossed him on the floor and she started hitting him, and then she grabbed a brick and started hitting him with the brick, and then out of nowhere he saw 3-4 other guys just come rushing and just start stomping on him."

The woman you hear on this video witnessed the attack and intervened. She snapped the photo of the alleged attacker and confronted her. She also says the woman and the other attackers made racial comments to Rodriguez. Rodriguez is in a lot of pain and is using his family for support as he recovers.

LASD tells FOX 11 they are investigating this case and they believe Rodriguez was attacked from behind. No arrests have been made yet. They tell FOX 11 the other assailants who jumped in are three black men between the ages of 20-30.
