New book celebrates Black identity, mainstream culture
Everyone is dancing to Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us." Folks of all flavors are blowing out their hair, or dredding their locks. Hoodies are hip on everyone everywhere. Culture is highlighted in these American times, and in many instances, the catalyst came from African Americans. That fact is celebrated in a new book: "Afrocentric Style: a Celebration of Blackness and Identity in Pop Culture." Brooke Thomas spoke to author, screenwriter and Emmy-award winning journalist Shirley Neal, about it.
