Volunteers in Montecito find a family's treasure

You probably never thought that finding a photo album would be similar to finding gold. But, in Montecito, that's exactly the feeling a local man has after months of cleaning up from the deadly mudslides.

If you live in Montecito the photo album in this story might be yours. It and many other items will be on display Saturday at the Montecito Recovery Center at:

1283 Coast Village Circle
Santa Barbara, CA 93108

As we stood on a road off workers move tons of rock and dirt to repair a broken community while in nearby Santa Barbara Christina Bean delicately removes caked mud, dirt and mold to try and restore precious items found by people like Abe Powell. Abe is a member of the Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade.

He described how he found a photo album in a plastic storage bin by a tree buried under the mud.

"It's like winning the golden egg at an Easter Egg hunt," he told us.

As he ticked off various items that he and his team have found he mentioned...

"We found a Rolex this weekend." A Rolex with an inscription making it easy to find the owner. But, then there are things like that simple album filled with pictures of a family's past… Because of privacy concerns we've been asked not to show faces…

But, up to this point since an owner hasn't been found.
At the Montecito Recovery Center conservator Christina Bean is going to try and save the pictures.

Again, all of the recovered items will be on display this Saturday at the Montecito Recovery center in Santa Barbara. The address is at the top of this story.
