Quail Fire near Castaic at 40% containment

The Quail Fire burning near Castaic in Los Angeles County has burned more than 40 acres in just a few hours, but as of Wednesday night is at 40% containment.

Fire crews contained a brush fire that broke out in the Castaic area of Los Angeles County Wednesday afternoon.

Reports of the fire began coming in shortly before 6 p.m. Aug. 17 near the 3100 block of Charlie Canyon Road in Castaic. By 7 p.m. the fire had reached approximately 46 acres, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department. County Fire Air Operations are on the scene helping the LACoFD with what is now a second alarm wildfire.

The fire was contained at 53 acres on Aug. 18.

Quail Fire burns in Castaic

The Quail Fire has grown to approximately 50 acres Wednesday in just about an hour.

Video from SkyFOX showed helicopters were on the scene. 

The fire broke out as the state of California was in the midst of a Flex Alert. A heat wave had led state officials to urge energy conservation between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday. 

Officials are still investigating what caused the fire.
