LOS ANGELES - Miley Cyrus will be honored Friday with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, celebrating a record-breaking music and television career that spans two decades.
The ceremony recognizes her status as the ninth best-selling female artist of all time and a three-time Grammy Award winner.
What we know:
The ceremony is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at 7011 Hollywood Blvd., directly across from The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel.
Cyrus' star will be the 2,845th dedicated since the Walk of Fame’s official completion in 1961.
According to Ana Martinez, producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Cyrus will be wearing a custom Versace dress for the occasion.
Acclaimed fashion designer Donatella Versace and actress Anya Taylor-Joy are confirmed to speak at the event.
The backstory:
Born Destiny Hope Cyrus in 1992, she earned the childhood nickname "Smiley" for her bright disposition, which was later shortened to "Miley."
She legally changed her name to Miley Ray Cyrus in 2008, choosing a middle name that honors her grandfather, Ronald Ray Cyrus, a long-serving Democratic member of the Kentucky House of Representatives.
After skyrocketing to fame on the Disney Channel series Hannah Montana (2006–2011), Cyrus transitioned into a global pop powerhouse.
She has secured multiple multi-platinum albums and 10 total Grammy nominations, recently winning top categories for her hit single "Flowers" and earning an additional trophy for her collaboration on Beyoncé's "II Most Wanted."
