Man accused of shooting from rooftop

A man was placed in handcuffs after he allegedly shot at random from a Marina del Rey rooftop. Somehow, no person was hit by the bullets being sprayed by the alleged gunman.

A suspected gunman is in custody – but not before drawing an active-shooter response for allegedly spraying bullets from the rooftop of a Marina del Rey apartment building.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department responded to a call of a shooting from the Marina 41 Apartments in the 4100 block of Via Marina around 10:15 p.m. Saturday night. According to LASD, the suspect was shooting at random from the apartment's rooftop.

Witnesses told police 30 to 50 or more rounds were fired, and that the shooter – identified by neighbors as Victory Nguyen – was armed with several firearms including AR-15 rifles and multiple pistols and ammunition. Jail records show that a Victoryloc Nguyen was booked early Sunday morning by deputies from the Marina del Rey station, and he was being held in lieu of $2 million bail.

According to a report from the City News Service, Nguyen was livestreaming the incident on social media.

LA County deputies duck from rooftop shooter

Chilling videos show deputies ducking from a rooftop shooter in Marina del Rey.

Deputies closed surrounding streets including via Dolce and via Marina south of Washington Boulevard and urged nearby residents to shelter in place, said Sgt. Tim Gannon of the sheriff's Marina del Rey station. All streets have since reopened and the shelter in place has been lifted.

Nguyen was eventually taken into custody around 1:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported as officials reported the bullets missed everyone.
