2 teens in custody after high-speed IE pursuit

Two teens were arrested following a high-speed chase in LA to San Bernardino counties. They are facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, evading police, and burglary.

A high-speed pursuit that began on the 10 Freeway ended overnight with an officer-involved shooting in the Inland Empire. Two 17-year-old suspects are now in custody. No officers were injured, but a family was caught in the chaos after one suspect forced his way into their home.

Timeline:

Around 11:30 p.m. Sunday California Highway Patrol officers spotted a vehicle traveling more than 100 miles per hour with no lights. After running the license plate, they discovered it was tied to armed and dangerous suspects wanted for a carjacking and a string of burglaries in Downey and Whittier.

CHP initiated a stop, but the suspects led officers on a high-speed chase on the 10 freeway through parts of Pomona and Montclair.

The pursuit ended as the vehicle exited Euclid Avenue near the Ontario-Upland border when officers performed a PIT maneuver. Two suspects ran from the vehicle.

One suspect was taken into custody quickly. The second suspect pulled out a handgun while running, turned and fired at officers, who then returned fire. No one was injured at that point, according to Assistant Chief of the CHP Inland Division Charles Leonard.
