Hughes Fire prompts school closures
Some schools in the Santa Clarita Valley were closed after the Hughes Fire erupted near Castaic Lake.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - Firefighters continue to battle the massive Hughes Fire that erupted north of Santa Clarita near Castaic Lake on late Wednesday morning. The fire was initially reported at 50 acres before exploding to over 10,000 acres in the evening hours.
Shortly after the fire sparked, some students were evacuated and taken to other schools or other locations.

Students evacuated due to Hughes Fire
Students at numerous schools in the Lake Hughes and Castaic areas had to be evacuated due to the Hughes fire.
Tens of thousands fled the area as officials ordered evacuation orders and warnings in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. Several schools are located within the evacuation zones and some schools are closed on Thursday, Jan. 23.
