5 Freeway near Castaic reopens after fire jumps freeway

Firefighters were making progress on a wildfire that jumped across the 5 Freeway and spread across dry hillsides while a new blaze forced residents in the Castaic area to evacuate. Two firefighters were injured while battling the blaze, officials said.

Firefighters Monday were making progress on a wildfire that jumped across the 5 Freeway and spread across dry hillsides. Two firefighters suffered burn injuries while battling the blaze, officials said. 

The "Route Fire" sparked Saturday evening near the 5 Freeway at the Templin Highway off-ramp, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire stretched to more than 464 acres and was 95% contained.

Route Fire: Crews battling Santa Clarita wildfire, 5 Freeway shut down

The Route Fire has stretched to more than 140 acres.

ROAD CLOSURES:

The California Highway Patrol temporarily shut down the southbound 5 Freeway at Vista Del Lago Road and northbound lanes at Templin Highway. Just after 9 p.m., two lanes were reopened in both directions, Caltrans reported.

All lanes reopened by Monday morning.
