(FOX 11)

Authorities Wednesday identified the man who was fatally wounded after stopping at a red light in the Watts area of Los Angeles.

The victim was identified as 43-year-old Lavon Wright Jr., of Corona. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The homicide occurred near the intersection of 103rd Street and Compton Avenue on Tuesday afternoon at about 1 p.m.

Los Angeles police say the suspect, described only as a black male, walked up to the victim's car and fired multiple rounds striking the victim before getting in a vehicle and driving away.

A motive for the killing was not immediately known but LAPD investigators believe the attack was gang-related.

No further information was immediately released.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact LAPD.

The investigation is ongoing.
