BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. - Police on Sunday released the name of a 23-year-old ex-felon who was arrested after officers in Beverly Hills searched for nearly three hours and eventually arrested him on suspicion of armed robbery.

Aaron Christopher Newsom was allegedly armed and left another handgun at or near the scene of the crime, the Beverly Hills Police Department reported.
The robbery occurred about 5:35 p.m. Saturday in the 300 block of North Canon Drive, between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards, Beverly Hills Police Sgt. T. West said.
Newsom allegedly displayed a handgun and demanded property from a man on the street, said Beverly Hills Police Lt. Elizabeth Albanese.
He took the man's jewelry and ran, firing at least one shot, but no one was hurt, West said.
A gun was discarded and recovered.
"Officers responded to the location immediately and located the suspect inside a retail store in the 200 block of North Beverly (Boulevard)," Albanese said.
"The suspect ran from police out of the rear of the store. Police secured the area and began an extensive search."
Newsom was located in the 200 block of the north alley between Beverlyand Canon about 8:30 p.m. and taken into custody, she said.
A second gun was recovered, West said.
Newsom was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, robbery, beingan ex-felon with a firearm and an outside warrant.
He was being held without bail. He's scheduled to appear at the Airport Superior Court at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to L.A. County jail records.
