Former foster youth defies the odds to earn his PhD

With National Foster Care Month coming to a close, the segment will spotlight the inspiring story of Demontae “Tae” Thompson, a former L.A.-based foster youth and Biddy Mason Charitable Foundation (BMCF) scholarship recipient who defied the odds to earn his PhD this spring. Joined by BMCF president and CEO Jackie Broxton, the conversation will highlight how scholarships, mentorship, and community support can help foster youth—especially Black and Brown youth, who are overrepresented in foster care—become leaders who help their communities thrive.
