Butler sworn in to Senate
California Gov. Gavin Newsom selected Laphonza Butler to fill the vacant U.S. Senate seat held by the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein. Butler was sworn in by vice President Kamala Harris, for whom she worked as an adviser. Feinstein's term runs through the end of 2024.
