Parents of baby killed by alleged DUI driver create foundation in his memory and welcome newborn son
LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - A little less than 11 months ago, MMA fighter and trainer Marcus Kowal and Mishel Eder's lives changed in one terrible moment with an accident that took the life of their 15-month-old son Liam.
A 72-year-old woman suspected of driving drunk crashed into Liam's stroller. Mishel's 15-year-old sister, who had taken him for a walk, recovered but Liam's injuries were catastrophic.
A day later, the 15-month-old boy's parents decided to donate his organs after tests showed the boy would not recover from his injuries.
Soon after, they joined us on Good Day LA with the decision to create something positive from such a tragic accident. Thus Liam's Life Foundation began, which is dedicated to changing the culture surrounding drunk driving and to promote organ donation.
On Tuesday, they returned to our studio with their beautiful newborn baby, Nico.
"The name Liam means the people's protector. So we decided to name him Nico because Nico means the people's victory," Kowal said.
