According to U.S. Rep. John McGuire, multiple law enforcement officers have been shot in southern Virginia. "We are closely following the situation and keeping everyone affected in our hearts during this difficult time," McGuire wrote. Multiple law enforcement officers have been shot in southern Virginia, according to U.S. Rep. John McGuire.

In a post on X Wednesday, McGuire said his thoughts and prayers were with deputies shot in Pittsylvania County and with their families.

"We are closely following the situation and keeping everyone affected in our hearts during this difficult time," McGuire wrote.

What we know:

McGuire represents Virginia’s 5th congressional district, which includes Pittsylvania County. The county sits along the state’s southern border with North Carolina, about 98 miles northwest of Raleigh.

Photos and video from the scene showed a large number of police and emergency response vehicles parked in the area.
