LAPD, feds launch operation in North Hollywood

The joint operation is connected to a child porn sting, according to authorities.

A multi-agency task force involving the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and federal partners converged Tuesday in a North Hollywood neighborhood to execute a high-stakes search warrant related to child exploitation.

What we know:

Law enforcement activity began in the early morning hours at a home located near the intersection of Collins Avenue and Willowcrest Avenue.

Officials said investigators are focused on the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material.

To ensure no evidence is overlooked, the LAPD deployed electronic service detection dogs. These specialized K9s are trained to sniff out a specific chemical coating found on memory chips, allowing them to locate hidden devices like USB drives, laptops, and cell phones that human officers might miss.

What they're saying:

"We have what's called electronic service detection dogs and what these dogs do is they help us, law enforcement, in locating devices," Lt. Robin Richards with the LAPD explained. "There is a chemical coding on the memory chip and that's what the dogs detect. So when we humans miss a particular device, the dogs will come behind us and they will be able to find those devices, obviously assisting us with our investigations."

What we don't know:

While at least one person is currently being questioned by the LAPD, officials have not yet released the identities of any suspects or confirmed the exact number of arrests.

It's unclear how long this specific residence has been under investigation or if this raid is part of a larger, multi-location sweep across the Los Angeles area.

What's next:

Police are on the scene and expect to be processing evidence for several more hours.

According to authorities, several arrests are expected to be made by the end of the day.

The seized digital materials will undergo forensic analysis to identify potential victims and further criminal activity.
