Motorist arrested in Downey 5 Freeway crash that killed two

DOWNEY, Calif. - A man and a woman died Saturday in a crash on a Santa Ana (5) Freeway off-ramp in Downey.  

The crash was reported at 2:41 p.m. on the Paramount Boulevard off-ramp of the southbound Santa Ana Freeway, said California Highway PatrolOfficer Elizabeth Kravig.  

The vehicle went down an embankment, she said.

Downey police found the white car in the area of Florence Avenue and Studebaker Road, and the driver was arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run.

There was no immediate information about the driver.

A SigAlert was issued at 2:50 p.m., shutting down the off-ramp.

The ramp was reopened at 7 p.m.
