Teen on minibike leads authorities on pursuit
A bizarre pursuit ended on the 110 Freeway.
LOS ANGELES COUNTY, Calif. - Los Angeles drivers couldn't help but do a double-take when they saw police pursuing a man on a minibike in the Harbor Gateway area.
What we know:
The police chase started just before 11 p.m. Tuesday. Officers with the Gardena Police Department saw two men riding pocket bikes through the intersection of Crenshaw and El Segundo boulevards. The two men were "in violation of several sanctions," Gardena PD later said in a press release.
Officers attempted to make a traffic stop. However, the suspects did not comply, and a pursuit was initiated. Both suspects continued northbound onto Crenshaw Blvd. going well over 40 mph, officials said.
One of the suspects then led officers onto the 110 Freeway at 8th Street, going in the wrong direction. Eventually, he decided to travel the correct way on the southbound lanes of the 110 Freeway. At this point, the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit.
Video from the scene showed the pursuit coming to an end once the suspect's minibike ran out of gas near the 190th Street exit.
He was taken into custody while the second suspect is at large.
The investigation is ongoing.
