M-6.6 earthquake reported off of Jalisco, Mexico

A magnitude-6.6 earthquake was reported Thursday morning off the western coast of Jalisco, Mexico.

It shook just after 10 a.m. about 145 miles southwest of Tomatlan, Mexico, the U.S. Geological Survey reports. It was first reported as a preliminary 6.9-magnitude quake but was downgraded to 6.6.

A magnitude-3.0 quake also shook the Yucca Valley area of California on Thursday.
