Ex-LAPD officers gets life for Bitcoin home invasion

Eric Halem, 38, was sentenced to concurrent life terms after being found guilty of kidnapping and robbery in a brief jury verdict following a two-week trial. Superior Court Judge Mildred Escobedo denied a late request for a new trial, citing Halem's willingness to use violence out of "sheer and utter greed." He will be eligible for parole in seven years.
