Tim Curry, the acclaimed film and television actor best known for playing Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the cult classic "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," has died at the age of 80, TMZ reported.

The backstory:
He began his acting career in the late 1960s before landing his breakout role as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Although the film was initially dismissed by critics, it later became a cult classic and a staple of midnight movie screenings.
Curry also memorably portrayed Pennywise the clown in the 1990 adaptation of Stephen King’s "It" and played Mr. Hector in "Home Alone 2: Lost in New York." His other credits included "Annie," "The Hunt for Red October," "Muppet Treasure Island," "Addams Family Reunion" and "Scary Movie 2."
Curry remained active in film and theater for much of his career, but his health limited his work in later years. He suffered a major stroke in 2012 that required brain surgery and said last year, around the release of his memoir "Vagabond," that he was still unable to walk.
