Murder suspect search underway in Sylmar

A 35-year-old woman was taken to the hospital where she died from her injuries.

A massive police manhunt ended in an arrest Thursday morning after a 35-year-old woman was fatally stabbed in her Sylmar home.

What we know:

According to police, LAPD officers originally responded to a stabbing call at around 9:21 p.m. Wednesday near Beaver Street and Dronfield Avenue near the 210 Freeway.

At the scene, officers conducted a welfare check and discovered a 35-year-old woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died from her injuries. 

Witnesses told police that the victim’s boyfriend was responsible for the attack and ran away from the crime scene.

At around 5 a.m. Thursday, officers tracked the suspect in the area of Hubbard and Eighth Street, police said. 

A large perimeter was established that included the grounds of Gridley-Montanez Dual Language Academy. As a precaution, students and staff were temporarily relocated to Macaulay Middle School,

By 10 a.m., the LAPD confirmed the suspect was taken into custody.

What we don't know:

The identity of the suspect is unknown.

What's next:

The suspect is expected to be booked on murder charges. 

Investigators are continuing to process evidence from the Beaver Street apartment and the area where the arrest occurred. 

Gridley-Montanez Dual Language Academy is expected to resume normal operations once the LAPD clears the perimeter, though parents are advised to wait for official confirmation from the district.
