CUDAHY, Calif. - Arson investigators with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were looking into what is considered to be a “suspicious” fire that ignited at an apparent homeless encampment inside a two-story commercial building in Cudahy early Tuesday.
Crews with the Los Angeles County Fire Department were called to a building located in the 4600 block of Cecelia Street, near Atlantic Avenue just before 3:15 a.m.
The raging, two-alarm fire was knocked down within 40 minutes, fire officials said.
Fire officials say there were signs a homeless encampment was in the area and believe the fire may have been the result of a warming fire as chilly conditions prevailed across Southern California overnight.
Firefighters canvassed the building and did not find anyone inside.
No injuries were reported.
The investigation is ongoing.
