SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The San Bernardino City Unified School District is now the latest victim of a ransomware computer attack that hit over the weekend.
The school district alerted everyone on social media, 'A ransomware attack has directly impacted the school district computer network and has locked access to district files.'
But the district says all the personal information from students and their families are kept on separate third-party servers, and are not affected.
Classes are resuming as usual, but without WiFi and other technology-based tools.
In a statement the school district says:
"We are working with law enforcement and a third-party expert to restore the network. At this point, there is no estimated time for restoration of services. As part of the ongoing investigation, the school district cannot disclose the ransom demands."
According to its website, the district has 72 schools with about 53,000 students.
