Officers first went to the residence in the 14900 block of Lemay Street in response to a domestic violence call around 12:15 a.m., said Los Angeles Police Department Sgt. Brian Eldridge.
A man, an LAPD employee, suffered a minor injury in the incident. A SWAT team was summoned after the woman, believed to be in her 50s and a former LAPD communications division employee, refused to leave the house, police said.
Eldridge said officers at the scene believed the woman might have access to a high-caliber weapon. Negotiators worked all night to convince her to surrender, but she refused, even after tear gas was pumped into the residence, said LAPD Capt. Andy Neiman.
Shortly before 9 a.m., SWAT officers entered the residence and took the woman into custody using a Taser, Neiman said. The woman was medically evaluated for possible injuries, Neiman said.
The woman is a former civilian employee of the LAPD and is the girlfriend of a current LAPD employee, the LAPD reported. Authorities could not immediately confirm a news report that the LAPD employee is a detective.
Officers arriving at the scene located the woman's boyfriend, who suffered minor injuries, Neiman said. It was not immediately known if the woman actually was armed, and authorities were working to search the residence, Neiman said. Unconfirmed reports indicated that she might have had access to an AK-47 assault rifle, police said.
