VALINDA (CNS/FOX 11) - Human remains found in the yard of a Valinda-area home have been positively identified, officials said Friday, but they stopped short of saying whether the remains were those of a person who was reported missing in 2009.
The remains, which included a skull, were discovered Aug. 7 buried in the backyard of the home in the 700 block of Elsberry Avenue, where detectives had gone as part of their investigation into the 2009 missing-person case.
The name and gender of the missing person were not revealed by investigators, who have said only that the missing person was an adult.
Coroner's Chief Craig Harvey told City News Service the remains have been positively identified, but he could not say anything else about the case, citing a security hold.
Nicole Nishida of the sheriff's department said detectives were planning to conduct a news conference Tuesday, when they will reveal the identity of the person whose remains were found, along with the identity of a "suspect" in the case. She said she could not confirm that the remains were those of the person reported missing in 2009.
The San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported on its website that authorities had identified the remains as those of a woman who went missing in 2009.
Sheriff's Homicide Detective Steve Blagg told the newspaper no arrests had been made.
