Firefighters stop forward progress of 'Jake Fire' in Santa Clarita at 9 acres

A brush fire erupted Wednesday afternoon in Santa Clarita threatening several structures and prompting schools to evacuate.

The "Jake Fire" was first reported around 1 p.m. in the 21500 block of Deputy Jake Drive.

Firefighters were able to stop forward progress of the flames at nine acres. Several homes in the area were also threatened by the blaze.

An evacuation order was in place for residents south of Placerita Canyon Road between Pepperidge Drive and Aden Avenue. It was lifted shortly before 2 p.m.

McGrath Elementry School and Master's University in Santa Clarita were also evacuated due to the brush fire.

Deputies were responding to evacuate students from Michael McGrath Elementary. Parents were asked to reunite and pick up their children at Newhall Elementary at 24607 Walnut Street in Newhall.

"School staff will be with McGrath Elementary students until all parents arrive for their children," Santa Clarita City said in a tweet.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
