FIFA World Cup: New York - New Jersey Stadium set to host World Cup final

New York/New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) will be on the world stage Sunday as it hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup Final.

The backstory:
The open-air stadium, located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, opened in 2010 and is the home of the NFL’s New York Jets and New York Giants. It has a seating capacity of 82,500.

In 2014, the stadium hosted Super Bowl XLVIII, where the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8. It was the first ever Super Bowl played outdoors in a cold-weather area.

The stadium features artificial turf and for the FIFA World Cup, the field was retrofitted with natural grass. Following the final, the turf will be removed and cut up into sections and sold on the FIFA Store website.
FIFA World Cup final to feature Super Bowl-style halftime show
The World Cup Final will feature the first halftime show in FIFA World Cup history with music superstars Justin Bieber, Madonna, Shakira, and BTS performing. Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel, and the PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay will also perform.
FIFA says the Halftime Show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative working to raise $100 million to expand access to quality education and football for children worldwide.
