Female football player remembers her late mom

Mackenzie Aguilera is a freshman who plays on both the freshman and varsity football teams at Don Lugo Antonio high school. Her mother passed away in September from breast cancer.

With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, sports teams often suit up with pink in play. That was the case at a high school in Chino where the mom of the team's female kicker was being remembered.

Mackenzie Aguilera is a freshman who plays on both the freshman and varsity football teams at Don Lugo Antonio high school. Her mother passed away in September from breast cancer.

She's a soccer player who took up football in January. Teacher Irene Hemsley says "she's got a lot of brothers. The whole team loves her."

Sadly, Mackenzie's mom Deidre lost her battle with cancer before ever getting to go to a game. She did get to see her kick her first field goal on the varsity team through Facebook Live. Mackenzie's dad is also a Don Lugo grad.

Mackenzie received support from a famous Don Lugo high alum, former NFL kicker Luis Zendejas.

Mackenzie's idol is soccer's World Cup superstar Carli Lloyd who renewed the conversation this year of a female in the NFL with a 55-yard field goal at the Philadelphia Eagles' training camp.
