Dog shot by LAPD responding to an emergency call in South L.A.

A dog was shot and wounded by LAPD in South L.A. while responding to a call Wednesday evening.

The dog was shot outside a home in the 400 block of East Century Boulevard near Avalon Boulevard at about 5:30 p.m. LAPD says officers were forced to shoot the animal twice because it tried to attack them went they went up to the gate of the house to investigate.

It's unknown why police were called to that home.

The dog was described as a pit bull. The dog was reportedly still alive at the time this article was written. It's unknown if the wounds were life-threatening.

No further details were immediately known. The officer-involved shooting is under investigation.
