Semi-truck catches fire on 5 Freeway
Crews knocked down a fire after a semi-truck caught fire on the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway in Granada Hills.
LOS ANGELES - Traffic on the 5 Freeway near Sylmar came to a standstill after a semi-truck caught fire early Monday morning.
What we know:
Crews with the Los Angeles Fire Department worked to knock down the flames from a semi-truck on the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway near Roxford Street.
By 6 a.m., firefighters were able to stop the forward progress of the fire and the driver was not injured.
The semi-truck fire caused a major traffic jam as vehicles were unable to move. The two right lanes of the southbound 5 Freeway and the Roxford Street on-ramp were closed.
Traffic was still backed up most of the day. According to Caltrans, all lanes on the southbound 5 Freeway at the 405 interchange opened around 4:30 p.m.
What we don't know:
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
