AVOCADO HEIGHTS, Calif. (FOX 11) - Two California Highway Patrol officers are recovering after being hit by a passing vehicle while responding to a call on the 60 Freeway in the Avocado Heights.
Authorities said that the crash took place shortly before 4 a.m. just east of the 605 Freeway. The two officers, whose names have not been released, were responding to a call when they were struck.
Investigators said that when the officers arrived they found a vehicle on the side of the freeway. They learned that that vehicle had struck a pedestrian.
The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital and is in moderate condition, California Highway Patrol said. Both of the officers were transported to the hospital to be evaluated. They were released from the hospital a short time later.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the officers was detained and will likely face charges.
No additional information has been released at this time.
