The deadly shooting broke out around 11:30 a.m. along the 9700 block of South Blvd at the Steak 'N Shake in the Sterling neighborhood. Multiple 911 calls stated, "shots fired inside restaurant" and "armed person with a gun."

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police, officers with the Pineville Police Department were able to respond to the restaurant faster due to being in the area on a separate call.

As they arrived to the scene, officers encountered a masked man who was armed. At that point, an employee inside the restaurant had already been shot.

At least two Pineville police officers fired shots at the armed suspect, seriously injuring him.

Police say a third person, a customer, was injured during the incident. That victim was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Detectives are still working to determine the source of the gunfire that hit the second victim.

An ambulance arrived at the scene Tuesday to check up on the Steak 'N Shake employees who were visibly distraught.

South Boulevard was partially shut down near the 485 light rail station while multiple emergency units were in the area.
