Woman killed in hit-and-run crash in Compton; authorities searching for the driver

A woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in Compton and the driver suspected of causing the crash was at-large Tuesday morning.

Deputies responded to reports of a two-vehicle accident at Compton Boulevard and Bullis Road, just east of Long Beach Boulevard, at 8:50 p.m. Monday, according to Sgt. D. Martinez of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Compton Station.

The victim was believed to have been traveling eastbound on Alondra Boulevard when her vehicle was struck by the suspect's vehicle going southbound on Bullis Road, the sheriff's department said.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. She was identified by family members as 20-year-old Jennifer Lopez. According to her family, she had just started a job at Centinela Hospital Medical Center in Inglewood and was preparing to celebrate her 21st birthday next month.

The driver of the suspect vehicle had fled the scene before deputies arrived.

It was unclear if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.

A detailed description of the driver was not immediately available.
