Rain, cold temps are expected for Sunday

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (FOX 11) - Southern California's mercurial spring weather is expected to bring another day of substantial rainfall on Sunday, along with unseasonably cold temperatures and a light dusting of snow in the mountains above Los Angeles.

The National Weather Service says Sunday's highs in the downtown Los Angeles area will barely reach 60 degrees, and will remain in the mid-60s in the valleys.

Showers are expected throughout the day in Los Angeles and Orange County.

Snow levels will fall to 6,000 to 6,500 feet Sunday, then drop to 4,500 to 5,500 feet Sunday night, according to the NWS, which also predicts a slight chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening.

"Snow and gusty winds will create hazardous driving conditions at times," the agency said.

Things should dry out in time for Monday's Memorial Day holiday, when the skies are expected to be at least partly sunny. No further rain is forecast in the Los Angeles area next week, when temperatures are expected to hover in the 70s.
