World's Hottest Pepper: Watch These People Attempt Guinness Record For Most In 60 Seconds

(FOX 11) If you can't handle the heat, stay out of Long Beach.

California's first annual Hot Sauce Expo was held this weekend and several people attempted to break the Guinness Book of World Records for eating the most Carolina Reaper peppers in 60 seconds, which is officially the hottest chile pepper in the world.

To put it in perspective, these peppers jalapeños seem like candy. The Carolina Reaper has an average heat of 1,569,300 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), while jalapeño peppers are around 2,500 to 8,000 SHU.

The participants in Sunday's Smokin' Ed's Carolina Reaper Eating Challenge had to eat as many peppers as possible, and then sit there for another agonizingly hot 60 seconds and feel the burn.

While no one beat the record Sunday which stands at 70 grams in one minute, the effort was hilarious and also very painful to watch.
