Woman in her 20s found dead inside Santa Ana apartment; homicide investigation underway

SANTA ANA, Calif. (FOX 11) - Santa Ana police have arrested a person of interest on Friday in the death investigation of a woman in her 20s who appeared to be a homicide victim.

Police were called about 7 a.m. to the 1000 block of South Standard Avenue after the victim's family members went to her apartment and found her body, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.

"Based on the evidence it appears she's the victim of a homicide,'' Bertagna said.

Police have obtained a search warrant to authorize a check for more evidence in the apartment, Bertagna said.

The woman's family was filling in detectives on the victim's life history, Bertagna said.

Police tracked down a person of interest, but when detectives tried to pull him over in his Volkswagen Passat he hit the gas and led police on a chase through the city, Anaheim and back to Santa Ana, where the pursuit ended with the driver rear-ending a truck at Dyer Road and Grand Avenue about 11:45 p.m., Bertagna said.

The man -- whose identity is being withheld -- then jumped out of the car and tried to get away on foot, but police arrested him without incident, Bertagna said.

The man was taken to the police station for further questioning, Bertagna said.
