Two brothers killed in violent hit-and-run crash in Highland Park

Two brothers were killed in a violent hit-and-run crash in Highland Park Sunday morning.

Jesse Felix Zuniga, 19, and Benny Zuniga, 25, drove home after celebrating their little cousin's baptism in Paramount when their vehicle was T-boned right in front of their apartment.

The neighbor across the street caught the accident on surveillance. At about 1:15 a.m., the Zunigas were turning onto San Pascual Avenue from Pollard Street when police say a white Chevy Silverado speeding about 80 miles per hour hit the brothers' Ford Fusion and several parked cars. Witnesses saw two Hispanic men likely in their 20s run from the white truck, eastbound on Hough Street.

Their girlfriends say the Zunigas were both smart, family men and assets to the community. Benny was working at Enterprise Car Rental with a degree in finance and just had an interview for a promotion. Jesse was studying civil engineering at Cal State LA.

"Jesse was my best friend. He was so nice to me. He was so nice to everyone," says Jesse's girlfriend, Marisol Salazer. "He was going to come see me, and he didn't make it."

"They were home already. They were in front of their door," adds Benny's girlfriend, Viviana Martinez. "I loved him so much. We had planned a future together."

Their family has set-up this GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of this nightmare. If you have any information about the accident, you're asked to please call police immediately.

"I see him in my pictures and he's smiling at me," says Martinez. "If you guys can help, tell us who these people are because this isn't fair."
