'Powder' from envelope prompts major hazmat probe in Hollywood Hills

Police say the powdery substance found in an envelope that arrived at a home in the 3100 block of Floye Drive in the Hollywood Hills was only residue from inside the envelope, and no one was injured.

The home reportedly belongs to 76-year-old comedic actor Eric Idle.

Emergency crews are investigating a suspicious envelope at a home in the 3100 block of Floye Drive in Hollywood Hills Monday evening.

Los Angeles police say shortly before 6:30 p.m., the residents got home, checked the mail, and opened an envelope that contained a white powder that spilled out of the envelope.

Los Angeles firefighters remain on scene. No injuries have been reported. At least two people were seen being placed in white suits and escorted off the property by firefighters.

"Monty Python" actor Eric Idle, 76, is reportedly staying at the home.

The investigation is ongoing.
