Suspect accused of killing Downey liquor store clerk, shooting at officers during pursuit, has died

The suspect accused of killing a Downey liquor store clerk, then shooting at officers during a high-speed pursuit, has died, authorities said Thursday.

Dylan Andres Lindsey, 24, of Torrance, succumbed to an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound that occurred after he fired multiple rounds at pursuing police and sheriff's deputies who then returned fire at the end of the vehicle pursuit, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. He had been hospitalized since Friday, May 10.

Lindsey was charged with murder for the May 7 shooting death of Gurpreet Singh, 44, of Cerritos, at ASL Liquor and Market in the 8500 block of Paramount Boulevard.

He was also charged with eight counts of assault with a firearm on a peace officer involving two Downey police officers, five Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies and one Bell Gardens police officer on Friday, according to the criminal complaint.

Alison Hart, 37, of Redondo Beach, who is accused of driving the car during the police chase, was charged with one felony count each of fleeing a pursuing peace officer while driving recklessly and being an accessory after the fact.

Hart's family claims that she was a victim in the shootout, and said she was forced to drive at gunpoint by Lindsey, who was a passenger in her vehicle at the time. In an exclusive interview with Hart's attorney on Monday, Mark Haushalter told FOX 11 that Hart was in shock and traumatized. She is in custody and "getting evaluated by the mental health unit." Her arraignment was scheduled for Tuesday but continued to June 4, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office.
